Thank you to all who pledged pounds to lose during the Pound for Pound Challenge. The national campaign by NBC's The Biggest Loser ran from Jan. 5 through June 30. For every pound you pledged, the Pound For Pound Challenge will donate 14 cents to Second Harvest.
The eighth annual Spokane Street Music Week brought an amazing array of local talent to downtown sidewalks June 14 to 18. Led by Spokesman-Review writer Doug Clark, buskers performed during the noon hour each day, collecting donations in their red buckets to help Second Harvest feed people in need. Rainy weather didn't dampen enthusiasm for the event, which raised close to $4,100. A big thanks to Doug Clark and local entertainers, who make this annual musical feast all about feeding hungry people. Huckleberry's 60,000 Lb. Challenge, which ran June 3 through 12, was a success. Thanks to generous donations from people throughout the community and gifts from the Newman's Own Foundation and Pacific Natural Foods, Huckleberry's exceeded its goal. Thanks to generous food and financial donors, along with dedicated volunteers, Second Harvest transforms every donated dollar into six pounds of donated food for people in need. Although primarily a fund drive, Huckleberry's also collected food donations. The net result will be more than 61,000 pounds of donated food for people in need. The proceeds from nine-day challenge will help stock Second Harvest’s core network of 20 emergency food outlets in Spokane County that are serving more than 15,000 people every month. Thank you to Huckleberry's Natural Market and the store's very generous customers.
