Hold a Food Drive
Food donated to local drives goes directly to the 20 emergency food pantries in Spokane County. Second Harvest needs 60,000 pounds of food from these drives each month for its food pantry network.

Food Industry
Many people do not realize that without food industry donations, Second Harvest would not be able to support so many nonprofit organizations in their efforts to help people in need. Support from local, regional and national wholesalers, retailers, growers and brokers are vital to Second Harvest's work, as they provide more than 70 percent of warehouse inventory.

Grocery Rescue
A new strategy for securing new food donations is Second Harvest's Grocery Rescue initiative. Second Harvest is dedicating a refrigerated truck to a daily route to pick up 400 to 500 pounds of unmarketable but usable food (including fresh produce, dairy products and deli meats) from participating grocers. These food donations include inventory that is off-specification, mislabeled, near expiration or simply overstock.
