Stamp Out Hunger
Saturday, May 12, 2012
Local postal employees are once again taking on hunger in our community. The National Association of Letter Carriers 20th Annual Stamp out Hunger Food Drive is scheduled for Saturday, May 12. Hardworking letter carriers and their friends and families join forces with Second Harvest volunteers to raise huge amounts of peanut butter, tuna, soup, stew, and other shelf-stable food that makes its way onto the tables of low-income families and seniors. The drive is a monumental source of food for Second Harvest’s network of food pantries. Last year’s food drive raised 156,000 pounds of food, making this food drive a huge benefit to the community. Progressions Credit Union is once again sponsoring the pre-printed collection bags, which postmen and postwomen deliver in advance to nearly 200,000 households. To participate, fill a bag with nonperishable food items and leave it on your front porch or steps on Saturday, May 12. Postal workers, their friends, families and Second Harvest volunteers will stop by to pick up the donations. You can also help by volunteering at one of the collection sites in Spokane.
